We’ve enlisted the help of hair historian,
Rachael Gibson to share the top ten most iconic hair films to watch when you get a break over the festive season. Check out these key cinematic hair moments that will give you plenty of inspiration for the start of 2021.

1. Rita Hayworth in Gilda (1946)
The American actress’s first appearance in the 1940s film shows her throwing her hair back, with her voluminous curls radiating silver screen glamour. “This is possibly the most famous hair flip in history,” says Rachael.

2. Milla Jovovich in Fifth Element (1997)
Hairdresser Ward Stegerhoek created the flame hue for Milla’s character, Leeloo. In an interview with
Into The Gloss, Milla reveals that originally the roots were left blonde, but this was challenging to upkeep throughout filming. On set one day, a hairdresser had left the solution on for too long, causing it to fall out. As a result a wig was made for her to wear for the rest of filming.

9. Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby (1968)
In the film, Rosemary Woodhouse says of her iconic pixie cut: "It's Vidal Sassoon. It's very in,” however, contrary to popular belief, Mia had cut her own hair. She told the
NY Times: “Vidal Sassoon is mentioned in the book “Rosemary’s Baby” and the film. Paramount decided to stage a photo shoot where Vidal Sassoon trimmed my 1 1/2-inch hair to 1 inch. The whole event was taken in good spirits (I wore a wig during the earlier scenes.)”
