The story behind the men's image award winners 2011

To take part you'll need to create an exquisite colour and style on a male model that complements an editorially inspired Autumn/Winter 2012/13 total look
Here, the 2011 winners, Trevor Sorbie Covent Garden, share the story behind their winning entry.
Had you entered the Men's Image Award or Colour Trophy before? What made you enter this time?
I entered the men's image award category in 2010, I was awarded the runner up in the grand final. Coming 2nd disheartened me at the time so I felt I needed to go back and win the following year.
Tell us a little bit about your entry - what do you think made it stand out?
The first thing that stood out had to be my model.
He had such striking looks, that nobody could ignore. I carefully selected clothes to give him a super cool contemporary look, rather than opting for a standard suit.
Once you'd submitted the image you had to recreate it in the regional finals. Did you do anything special to prepare yourself for this?
I kept practicing the look & tweaking it.
And what about the regional finals - was there anything about it that you hadn't expected or did everything go to plan?
The regional finals went fairly smoothly. Although not so smoothly In the Grand Final! I had borrowed the clothes and shoes and I was given the wrong sizes and colours but didn't realise until the morning of the competition. All was resolved by the 11th hour.
When you were announced as a Grand Finalist how did you feel? How was the night?
It felt emotional I was ecstatic, but relieved on the other hand.
You won some great prizes. What has been your highlight?
My highlight this year was going to Madrid with L'Oréal Professionnel & watching the Brooks & Brooks Art Team. It was such a great time.
What advice would you give to other people considering entering?
Do it, but only if you want to win!
