The right treatment

Matthew Batham2.JPGI had a lovely experience in Vegas recently. No, it didn't involve a showgirl (surprise, surprise) or even a win on the gaming tables, it involved a backwash treatment. Yes, a backwash treatment. OK, I know this isn't the usual domain of a man - and I know I might not be the typical male! - but it really was enjoyable.

I have Paul Mitchell's new Awapuhi treatment to thank for the pleasure, and, of course, the amazing staff at the Robert Cromeans salon at Mandalay Bay.

It did make me think, as I lay with my eyes closed enjoying the delightful drip, drip, drip of (I must say very effective) salon-only treatment as it was applied expertly to my hair, why more men don't go for similar experiences. There's nothing especially girlie about it - loads of men are happy to have their hair washed these days and it's only a few minutes longer at the backwash. And my hair did feel absolutely super afterwards!

I guess it comes down to marketing and environment more than anything. There is something very male-friendly about the Robert Cromeans salon - the highly tattooed staff are all like your best mate and there's nothing feminine about the funky interior - although it aint butch either. It's just cool. If you can make a male client feel comfortable, then who knows what you can entice him to try!

Thanks to the guys at Robert Cromeans' amazing salon - and of course, the magic of Awapuhi!

(Oh, just one request - next time can we ditch the black smock?).
