What Is HABB?

The Hair & Beauty Benevolent charity, established in 1853, is dedicated to helping professionals in the hair and beauty industry, and their families, if they find themselves facing hard times due to ill health, bereavement or injury.

Who Runs It?

HABB is managed by three committees:
  • a finance committee that co-ordinate the funds
  • a fundraising committee that helps to raise the charity’s profile, membership and funds
  • a management committee that decides how the money should be spent.

What Are Its Aims?

HABB helps those in need by providing special equipment and house modifications, as well as furniture and equipment specifically designed to help disabled hairdressers continue working. Through its Children’s Fund, HABB also provides equipment for disabled children, as well as essentials like school uniforms, beds and bedding. Pocket money, holidays, clothing and birthday and Christmas gifts are also donated.

How Can You Get Involved?

There are number of ways to show your support, but becoming a member is the ideal first step. You can also set up your own fundraising initiatives or get involved in HABB’s organised events such as the HABB Year Book, the HABB Ball, HABB Day or the HABB Seminars. Alternatively, if you’re a manufacturer you can become a HABB sponsor and receive branding and recognition at events, in the Year Book or on the website, while also helping HABB beneficiaries.

What Do People Say About HABB?

"Without HABB and without the support and contribution of the entire hair and beauty industry over the years, thousands of men, women and children would not have had their lives made more bearable during some of their most desperate times." Trevor Sorbie "The support HABB gives many people in our industry each year is invaluable, and for those who have come across difficult times, the assistance that it gives can truly make a difference to hairdressers’ lives. The L’Oréal Professional Products Division has been committed to HABB for many years, and it will continue to be one of our key charities long into the future, because we know it changes lives." Martin Smith, managing director, L’Oréal Professionnel Products Division "HABB is all about our industry. It’s all about helping hairdressers and beauty therapists when they need it. HABB is a way of helping each other." Allison Kirkby, managing director, Wella Professionals

How Can You Become a Member?

The charity has various membership packages to suit different levels of support:
  • £10 donation membership
  • £25 full membership for individuals
  • £50 salon membership for salons with more than 10 staff
  • £250 corporate membership for nationwide salons, manufacturers or companies in the hair or beauty industry.
