Everyone within the UK hairdressing industry as well as those around the world were given the chance to see the British Hairdressing Awards 2020 winners and celebrate the 36th British Hairdressing Awards 2020, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional during a virtual awards ceremony.
The
2020 finalists and the biggest names in the hairdressing industry gathered online to celebrate
Hairdressers Journal International’s British Hairdressing Awards 2020, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional. The ceremony recognises the very best in British talent, which keeps the UK at the forefront of the hairdressing world each year.
After a challenging year for the hairdressing profession, it was more important than ever to recognise the standout talent from the industry and come together to celebrate.
HJ’s executive director Jayne Lewis-Orr said during her opening speech: “2020 has been a year like no other. The pandemic has meant that salons have been closed for many months and we’re still dealing with the challenges it presents. Yet despite these difficult times, the hair industry has demonstrated yet again just how resourceful, creative and resilient it is. Tonight, is all about continuing that positivity as we join to celebrate the industry’s talent.”
She continued: “For 36 years we have had the unwavering support of Schwarzkopf Professional, and I would like to thank Schwarzkopf Professional's UK and Ireland general manager Julian Crane.”
Julian added: “I’m delighted to be here in our 36
th year of sponsorship, albeit a very different year. It’s been a hell of a year for the industry, but it’s only right that we carried on with this event.”
Mark Moloney, managing director of the Professional Beauty Group said: “One good thing that has happened this year is that hairdressing has jumped up in the public consciousness, both economically and in terms of the impact it has on the lives of the general public.
“These awards epitomise the industry’s passion and excellence. Thank you to Schwarzkopf Professional and the HJ team for your steadfast support in making tonight happen and well done to all nominees and finalists,” he said.
TV presenter Rylan-Clark Neal, who is loved by the UK hairdressing industry and indeed the nation, returned to host the evening and entertained us throughout the night’s proceedings.
And to help finalists and members of the hairdressing industry get in the party spirit, a special
BHA20 awards playlist was created to help bring the awards to everyone’s homes.
Here, we applaud our winners of the British Hairdressing Awards 2020, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional.

British Hairdresser of the Year 2020
The most prestigious award of the night, British Hairdresser of the Year, was awarded to Sally Brooks, Brooks & Brooks. This is the third time she’s won the title and on collecting her award, Sally said:
“I’m so shocked. We’ve just proved as an industry how resilient we are. I don’t think this award should have my name on it, it should have hairdressers everywhere on it – Hairdressers United! Thank you to my photographer friend Jenny Hands and to my team who are so supportive. A massive thank you to Jamie Brooks for supporting my ideas. We’re all really good friends, and everyone pulled it out of the bag this year. HJ and Schwarzkopf Professional you have done an incredible job tonight. Congratulations to everyone tonight – everyone deserves this award.”
The BHA Hall of Fame
The BHA Hall of Fame, which spotlights previous winners which stretches back as far as 1987, was also announced. Huge congratulations to the latest additions of the Hall of Fame; Mark Leeson at Mark Leeson Salons and Martin Crean at Mode.
