Step up and shine winner spends day with junior green

On Monday 9th November Step Up and Shine scholarship winner Sophie Freegard from Tops Hair Salon and Beauty in Melksham enjoyed a day at the ghd Academy in Soho for their annual Afro Connection course. This course was the first chosen by Sophie in her initial meeting with Step Up & Shine mentor Debbie G. The opportunity to learn from award winning afro hairdresser Junior Green was eagerly anticipated by Sophie and was very excited to be able to attend the day. Junior Green started the morning with an insight into his professional background as well as the skills surrounding afro styling. He provided information on how to select the right products, as well as dispelling the myths regarding afro hair. His knowledge of hair texture was apparent as he demonstrated his capabilities on his model. The afternoon was a chance for Sophie to work on her own model with the guidance of Junior Green. Sophie learnt how to treat, prep and style the hair while developing her knowledge in techniques that suit afro hair and styling methods that don’t. Sophie said “I was so excited when I got to choose this course as part of my Scholarship. I have always been interested in afro hair and I loved every minute of the day. Junior Green is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic and I have come away with so many skills. It really was an amazing day and I feel very lucky to have been able to attend”
