Spring/ summer trends 2010 - catwalk to high street
All eyes were on the spring/summer catwalk shows to see which looks might filter down to the salons for the sunny season.
We find out which catwalk looks have become a hit with hairdressers.

Rapunxel braids
"At New York Fashion Week designer's showcased up-styles which were much more relaxed and homemade. Distressed bohemian braids worn loosely over one shoulder are key.
"First shampoo and condition hair with products best suited to the hair type. Using a lightweight styling cream, roughly dry hair with fingers and then sprinkle mattifying powder through the lengths.
"Brush hair forward from the crown and start braiding, don't concentrate on the roots but plait the mid length through to ends. Once complete, secure and throw hair over one shoulder allowing it to sit naturally, if the plait is too tight, separate with with finger and thumb and loosen any desired sections."
Surfer chic
"Beach hair was a key focus on the Spring/Summer catwalks, models at Alexander Wang, Diane Von Furstenberg and Prada wore side-swept waves for a relaxed surfer style. To recreate this laid back look.
"Firstly cleanse and condition your hair, whilst damp prepare the roots to mid-lengths with a mousse. On the ends use a sea salt spray and roughly dry hair with fingers, allowing the hair to do what it wants.
"For dead straight hair I would suggest using a diffuser. Once dry, gently spray hairspray through the lengths to give that sexy, bed head finish."
Super shine
"Shiny hair is the summer staple and this season, like everything else, shine is exaggerated with Giorgio Armani spray painting gold highlights onto tresses whilst Gucci opted for super tight ponytails, slicked back to the crown with a wet-look gloss."
Errol Douglas
"Micro-Crimping is an amazing look - if you love curls and waves this is the next step on in terms of on-trend texture. It looks especially hot on mid length or long hair, and the trick is to crimp sections but not the whole head (unless you want a really full on catwalk look.) You can then brush it out for a fabulous, soft, candy floss finish. Also trying doing this on quiffs for a 2010 update."
"Product bombing is another hot trend - instead of layering products, mix them together in your palms where the heat and friction will help them become a super product! So, for shine and hold, mix a blob of serum with a squirt of hairspray, apply to damp hair and style. Try it with any combination of your two favourite products."

Colour - The spring/summer hair trends are all about going back to natural! So, to accompany the loose waves of the season, soft blondes and pastel shades particularly pretty-girl pinks and soft reds will dominate the new hair hues.
Paul Falltrick
"Spring/Summer runway trends have seen top knots and braids making a big come back and this will dilute into the consumer market. Sleek tidy edges and softer internal shapes will make a huge impact on this season's tress trends."

The tribal look extended to hair with flashes of vibrant highlights such as orange, turquoise, green and hot pinks. I'll be recreating this look into the salon using hair extensions.
