SheaMoisture has announced applications for its Salon Fund initiative are now open. The Salon Fund is a grant and business development programme initially created for Black-led salons in 2020, in response to Covid-19, with the goal of aiding salon owners who had been affected by the pandemic. Now, SheaMoisture has decided to revive the programme as part of its ongoing commitment to overserve the underserved.
Just 1% of the 35,000 UK salons cater for textured and afro hair. This, in addition to the current cost of living crisis, Black businesses are more often challenged by finding investment, resources, and funding. It’s more important now than ever to support Black businesses, with previous winners admitting the fund has acted as a lifeline.
Five Salon Fund winners will be awarded £10,000 each to support their business. The funds come alongside other benefits, such as mentoring from the entrepreneur and founder of Europe’s first and largest natural hair product discovery box – TreasureTress – Jamelia Donaldson, webinars on how to enhance their business, and hands-on support to help businesses flourish.
Applications for the SheaMoisture Salon Fund close Monday 1 May 2023.
