Tips on maintenance An undercut does require quite a lot of maintenance and upkeep and it is important to discuss this with your client beforehand. Clients can maintain this style themselves at home between visits too if they are confident enough. To keep the look sharp and precise I would recommend that clients visit their stylist every 2-3 weeks dependent on their hair growth rate. Going to a barber vs going to your hairdresser Clients often believe that going to a barber for a short, shaven style like the undercut is the best option but as long as the stylist is skilled and experienced in men's hairdressing it doesn't really matter if you are a barber or a hairdresser.

The key is to ensure you understand what the client wants and that you feel confident to carry that out.

Does it suit everyone? I don't think that this suits everyone and that is why the consultation process with your client is so crucial, especially when considering a style like the undercut. It is your responsibility to advise your client of what the style will entail and help guide them to a decision. It can also be beneficial to be honest and offer your opinion on whether or not you believe this look will work for them. Growing it out Growing an undercut out is a long process and does require a certain level of patience and persistence. Again, you must make your client aware of this during the consultation. If the undercut is at the back and underneath longer hair then it is easier to cover it up during the growing out phase but it can be frustrating and difficult for clients.
