The British Hairdressing Awards 2011 have now launched and if you're looking for some inspiration for your entry, why not take a few tips from this award-winning image?

Seung Ki Baek of Rush Hair in Epsom won the prestigious title of HJ's Southern Hairdresser of the Year in 2010 with a striking collection which included the beautiful shot above. Here's how the look came together:

Hair Stylist
I was inspired by the Coral Reef and its indigenous, tropical fish. The beautiful, flowing movements of these creatures - their colours, scales, tails and fins - are translated into a strong, sophisticated and structured image

Make-up Artist
We wanted to achieve a slightly edgy look, but didn't want the make-up to detract from the hairstyle, so we chose a soft, nude colour palette. We created an effect of tone and structure within the face to complement the hair implementing shading for soft highlights and shadowing for a more dramatic look.

Stylist
The main challenge of the styling brief was to complement the variety of colours used in the hair. We decided to work with gold garments to represent the movement of the fish, which also highlighted and accentuated the colours in the hair. In addition, we chose rich fabrics with shimmery, sequined textures to reflect the oceanic environment.

Journalist
The use of colour in this image is powerful and immediately striking. The innovative shades create a unique edge to what is already a bold cut.
