British hairdressing is renowned as the finest in the world and Schwarzkopf Professional put on a show to prove that reputation is well deserved at Salon Live.
Introducing the show, Simon Ellis, global creative director, said: “Our focus as a company is always to showcase the best of the world and tonight we want to celebrate the best of the UK.”
Inspiring presentations followed from Rainbow Room International, who are not only celebrating 40 amazing years in business, but also 40 years as Schwarzkopf Professional partners; Hooker & Young, who showed the beautiful, glamorous hair they are famed for; a surprise presentation from Nick Irwin, using the OSiS+ styling range; and a thrilling climax from Tyler Johnson and Lesley Jennison to showcase the Essential Looks collection.
Rainbow Room’s Red collection was about the passion and fire it takes to stay at the very top for 40 years. Strong lines and graphic shapes of bobs and crops were finished in a vibrant palette from peacock blue through vibrant orange to a pillar box red with a slight metallic sheen. In contrast, curls were worn voluminous with soft playful texture.
Paradox is a monochrome masterpiece by Gary Hooker & Michael Young that showcased the BlondMe range. “It’s all about clean blondes without the expense of the hair. BlondMe has revolutionised the way we do business.”
They showcased a spectrum from ashy blondes, through creamy tones to an almost iridescent pearl that were worn on 80's inspired curls, before live cutting two edgy but beautiful crops.
Nick Irwin presented men’s and genderless fashion in the session section and explained: “The clothes are the starting point and you take it from there. The hair is secondary. It’s not just about what I am doing with the hair, it’s a total image as well.”
The fun and playful work included a reinvented Afro look, a French-pleat inspired updo and a yellow crop that was finished with an emoji sprayed onto the back of the head.
Essential Looks were presented in an innovative photo shoot format. There was a phenomenal display of live cutting by Tyler who transformed long raven lengths into a stunning shattered pixie crop in a matter of minutes; while Lesley showcased the precision of top colourists, by hand-painting a black border on a bouffant that had already been coloured with dusty pink, creamy blonde and coffee stripes.
As the models took to the stage for a grand finale it was clear that the best of British hairdressing really is something to cherish.
