Schwarzkopf Professional relaunched Essensity this month, with an intimate launch at London's uber-cool Charlotte Street Hotel. To celebrate the green credentials of this natural range, the event featured a talk from organic beauty expert and business guru, Jo Fairley and hair presentations by eco-queens Gemma Hensman and Rae Palmer.
As guests admired model looks created by Gemma and Rae, brand manager for Essensity Simon Rowlands explained the importance of creating natural products with no compromise on performance.
The Essensity collection includes some striking colours, as demonstrated on the dazzling blonde and punchy red shade seen on the models. Simon also discussed the importance of sustainability in hairdressing, reminding salons that even small actions like recycling and monitoring water usage can help.
Jo Fairley then gave a fascinating presentation, talking about everything from her early years as a 13-year-old eco warrior to the launch of Green&Blacks, the organic chocolate brand she developed with her husband - which is now an official Cool Brand and has an annual turnover of £100million.
Jo is passionate about green and organic hair and beauty products, and revealed that the industry is now worth approximately £7 billion, and growing at a rate of one billion per year. She explained that natural products need to have look good and have a luxurious feel, but more importantly, have to perform as well as - or better - than the alternative, otherwise consumers simply won't invest.
Jo concluded by saying, "the bottom line is that you can have a good hair day, every day and be kind to the planet and that's got to be win win for all of us!"
