The Sassoon Academy has awarded this year’s scholarship to Tanahya Nash, a hairdresser in Southsea at Tony Wood Hairdressing.
The scholarship is given to just one professional each year from the Fellowship for British Hairdressing with the lucky winner receiving four week long courses from Sassoon which they will leave armed with technical knowledge that allows them to grown their careers as well as a Denman toolkit.
Tanahya and 9 other members were each invited to interview with experts in the industry. This year the panel included, Charlotte Grant-West content editor of Hairdresser’s Journal, Megan Danskine from Professional Hairdresser magazine, Martyn Way from Denman and Edward Darley from Sassoon Academy.
In the end it was between three shortlisted members, Chloe Daniels from Heavenly Hair in Saxundham, Portia McVinnie from KJM Salons and Tanahya and despite not being chosen for the Scholarship, Portia received an ABC Cutting Course video as, like Tanahya, she came from a smaller salon.
Tanahya plans to make this her best year yet. “I’m planning to learn and develop as much as possible so I can become a secure and steady stylist in the salon,” She said on her win.
She also commented on wanting to teach others saying: “I also want to make sure I pass on my education to upcoming apprentices, so I can pay the knowledge back.” “In five years, I would like to be educating more myself, so this is the perfect start… It’s all about progression and self- development in an inspiring atmosphere”.
