The country was hit by wedding fever this weekend as Kate Middleton married Prince William at Westminster Abbey. Here's what salons across the UK got up to over the Royal Wedding weekend.

  • Leicester salon group owner Barrie Stephen offered anyone called Kate or William a free haircut on the big day. "We wanted to celebrate the wedding and contribute to making it a special day for people in Leicester," said Barrie.
  • Cutting Room Creative in Leeds served tea and scones to clients on the day and ensured no one missed a second of the ceremony while having their hair cut or coloured, with plasma screens installed in the salon screening the historic event.
  • Any women (or men!) wearing a wedding dress visiting either of the Bonce salons in the West Midlands were offered a free cut and finish.
  • Half-price services were offered to any Kate and William namesakes by Scottish salon group Angels on the big day. The group also threw in a free glass of fizz and a themed cupcake to help clients celebrate.
  • Warren Holmes, international creative director for Nicky Clarke, styled hair for wedding guest Shozna - the now-famous former homeless teenage girl helped by charity Centrepoint, of which Prince William is ambassador.
  • Spirit Hair Company in High Wycombe created a regal atmosphere by decorating the salon with bunting and a red, white and blue theme. A big screen showed the Royal Wedding while Champagne and British cakes were served all day.
