James Davis, co-owner of Clay Salon & Spa, winner of HJ's 2010 Independent Business Newcomer, is warning other salon owners to beware of faulty fuse boxes, following a major fire at his premises.
The salon, in Oxshott, Surrey, suffered fire and smoke damage caused by a fuse box which should have been recalled by the manufacturer but had somehow slipped through the net.
The salon is now back up and running, but James admits it was a major challenge. "Luckily the insurance covered everything. We missed two weeks of business and it was a massive inconvenience, although we did make home visits to our clients."
