Sabai salon in newcastle-upon-tyne is a stylish home-from-home
Sabai Hairdressing lies at the heart of the bustling Grainger Town area of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and location was one of the deciding factors when owners Joe Dixon and Lyndsey Murthwaite chose the premises for their salon.
Joe explains: "We were attracted by the historical surroundings, but we were also aware that the street is situated in the middle of an up-and-coming area of the city."
Surrounded by elegant historical buildings, the Grade I listed salon boasts a set of period features of its own. Large sash windows and original hardwood flooring were in pristine condition, while a large, open fireplace and high ceilings add to the classical opulence.
These existing features set the tone for the warm and welcoming décor, which combines original fixtures with modern yet sympathetic furnishings.
And, rather than setting the historical surroundings against a trend-led colour scheme that could date quickly, Joe and Lyndsey opted for a simple, timeless palette of mustard and black. Interest is added on feature walls with decorative wallpaper from interior brands Osborne and Little, and Nina Campbell.
The comfortable clubroom mood of the salon is enhanced further with a Chesterfield sofa and velvet wing chair in the reception with a matching studded reception desk, which was handmade to their own design.
A three-seater Pasha backwash sofa unit from Pietranera ensures the lounge feel extends throughout the salon, while also creating a talking point among clients.
"We set out to create a welcoming, relaxing ambience," says Joe. "Client comfort is important to us."
