Cosmopolitan magazine's annual Ultimate Women Awards attracted a star-studded crowd last night, with leading ladies including Fearne Cotton, Nicola Roberts, and Alexandra Burke making an appearance on the red carpet. The big trend from the night appeared to bright, berry lips, but there were also some clear hair trends emerging amongst the award-winners.

Amongst the celebrities who dared to be different, Noisettes singer Shingai Shoniwa made the most impact with an enormous quiff, topped off with a fuchsia pink straw hat.
Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh opted for retro glamour, with her hair tucked in to an elegant 1940s-style roll - although I'm not keen on the loose strand on the opposite side.
Actress Karen Gillan won Ultimate UK TV Actress for her role in Doctor Who, and styled her vibrant copper hair in to a Heidi braid, wrapped from ear to ear.
Legally Blonde star Sheridan Smith took the prize for theatre actress, and I love that she kept her style so simple, with just a dramatically volumised bob to flatter her elegant white dress.

There were two colour trends evident at the awards; glossy brunettes, and multi-tonal blondes. Both Fearne Cotton and Donna Air are still working this summer's balayage trend, with darker shades woven through for a multi-tonal feel.
TV presenters Konnie Huq and Jameela Jamil add richness to their naturally espresso locks, with subtle lights in complementary brunette shades.

Curls remain a red carpet favourite, with many guests opting for loosely barrel-tonged ringlets. Nicola Roberts took the Ultimate Fashionista award, and complemented her auburn curls with a stunning green Body Amr dress.
Mum-to-be Myleene Klass also chose glossy ringlets, as did soul queen Beverly Knight, and Ultimate UK Music Star winner, Alexandra Burke - who also revealed the damage done to her hairline, possibly by hair extensions.

Shiny, glossy hair is always in fashion, and for some stars, a healthy polish is all that's needed to leave them red carpet ready.
Christine Bleakly was one of the few award-winners rocking an updo, which a chic low bun worn to one side. Controversial supermodel Crystal Renn kept things simple with shoulder-length, straight locks, finished with mirror-like shine.
I don't think much of Kelly Brook's undefined curls, which seem neither one thing or another. I'd like to have seen her with a proper set, or uniform volume all over - this feels a bit nothing.
Michelle Williams took a break from Strictly to attend the awards, and she's still working this slightly Cleopatra-esque style - although I agree with Michael Barnes that it looks slightly wiggy!
