The Fellowship for British Hairdressing's Project X & The Colour Project came together in the inspiring surroundings of The Swiss Church, Covent Garden to present a finale show to end their year of ‘finishing school’ education.
The teams – mentored by Debbie G (Project X) and Michelle Griffin (Colour Project) - demonstrated their newly acquired skills to family, colleagues and industry VIPs to the accompaniment of live classical music; a first for Fellowship events.
For the Project X Team, the evening provided the chance to showcase session styling and cutting techniques which they'd developed over the years. Looks included braiding, stitching and precision cutting, all honed to perfection over the course of a year with the help of some amazing mentors.
For the Colour Project, the evening provided the chance to showcase their creative flair with techniques including freehand painting, feathering and blending.
Jesse Jackson, a Project X student from Russell Eaton salon, summed up how all the students felt, explaining: "Each session has been intense, exciting and fantastic. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to be part of it and not one day has been the same. The variety of industry leaders that have shared their talent and passed on their skills has been mind blowing. It's indescribable the influence everyone involved has had on me, my confidence and my hairdressing. This unforgettable experience has been priceless!"
The students finished the show by presenting their amazing models – 23 in total – on stage, joined by Project Leaders Michelle and Debbie plus mentor and Fellowship Chancellor Karine Jackson and President Errol Douglas MBE. Each was also awarded their Graduate certificate on stage, to rapturous applause from the audience.
Project X and Colour Project are currently recruiting for the 2015 programme, which will include a day per month of education and mentoring. Specific skills training in colour and cutting/session work will include presentation skills coaching, brand-me consultancy, photoshoots and stage time at Salon International.
The new Project Leaders for next year are Katie Mulcahy (Colour Project) and Ashleigh Hodges (Project X).
