Project x learn vintage techniques with paul gooch Project X Learn Vintage Techniques with Paul Gooch The Fellowship for British Hairdressing's Project X team recently enjoyed the chance to learn some film and TV styling techniques, in the expert hands of Paul Gooch. Paul is an in-demand session stylist who has worked with the BBC and blockbuster films including Alice in Wonderland, Into the Woods and Les Miserables - where he personally cut Anne Hathaway's urchin crop. As well as having plenty of expertise to share, Paul has another link to Project X. He works for Umberto Gianninni salons and with the late, great Umberto a dedicated member of the Fellowship and mentor to its youth groups, providing education is a fitting tribute. On this occasion, he demonstrated three different vintage techniques suitable for any on-set styling. First of all he showcased how to use hot sticks to create a 40s look, followed by a finger-wave technique to produce 30s hair and then vintage metal tongs heated in an oven to create a traditional Marcel wave. As well as showcasing the techniques, Paul explained the context and how important it is for the whole cast to look authentic to the era. Team member Jessica Spencer from KJM Salons said: "Paul wowed me. Talking about all the stars that he does and the films he works on was so interesting. I really enjoyed having a go at using the vintage Marcel tongs. It was quite scary because of how hot they get and fiddly they are, but really amazing to have the chance to use them."
