Who says party hair is just about bouncy blow-dries? Give your clients a look with a fashion edge by taking your cues from the catwalks of New York, London, Milan and Paris.
We've hand-picked a party-perfect look from each city which doesn't just represent a trend for Spring/Summer 2015, but also the essence of the place; New York's impeccable gloss, London's unbeatable cool, the manicured perfection of Milan and the effortless glamour of Paris.
Find out how to copy the looks for your salon clients directly from the session stylists responsible - the only question now is, which city's style has stolen her heart?
New York Gloss
As seen at Wes Gordon by James Pecis for Bumble and bumble
Modern femininity meets 90s sophistication with this chic, tight ponytail. For the runway, hair was finished with metallic hardware. There are plenty of accessories like this readily available on the high street - work with what your client has or collect your own stash of pieces to add some sparkle to their festive looks.
1. Apply Bumble and bumble Thickening Full Form Mousse from roots to end and blow-dry hair smoothly.
2. Comb back into a ponytail on the occipital bone.
3. Rub Bumble and bumble Repair Blow Dry from mid-shaft to end and flat iron to create a weighted (but conditioned) ponytail.
4. Finish with a metal cuff, clamping around the elastic used to secure the ponytail.
5. Mist the finished look with Bumble and bumble Cityswept Finish for extra shine.
London Cool
As seen at Temperley by Luke Hersheson for L'Oreal Professionnel
1. Prep hair with L’Oreal Professionnel Tecni.Art mousse to swell the hair slightly and make it malleable. Roughly blow-dry in.
2. Backcomb the front section of the hair to create a boxy, boyish quiff – not rounded at all. Brush the sides up towards the crown to ensure the shape isn’t rounded.
3. Twist, cross over, knot and pin the hair up at the back.
4. Cake the entire style in Tecni.Art Air Fix to create a gritty, ‘baked’ look to the hair.
Milan Movement
As seen at Alberta Ferretti by Guido for Redken
Hippy luxe was order of the day for this utterly romantic undone texture. A fresh take on curls, this look feels much cooler than fussed-over immaculate waves. "At this moment in time, easy hair feels the most modern," says Guido. "And that’s the overall feeling we get with this hairstyle. She's kind of a hippie, but still very feminine and soft so I left the hair a bit natural, with some nice chunky texture and loose curls."
1. Start with clean hair by washing with Redken Diamond Oil Shampoo and Conditioner.
2. Roughly blow-dry then create a messy centre parting using your fingers.
3. Use a round brush to blow-dry the front of the hair until smooth.
4. Spray Fashion Works Versatile Hairspray throughout the hair to create some texture.
5. Create additional movement by loosely wrapping underside pieces of hair around a ½-inch curling iron and face-framing pieces around a 1-inch curling iron.
6. Apply another mist of Fashion Works Versatile Hairspray throughout the hair to pull out some of the curl.
Pretty Parisienne
As seen at Valentino by Guido for Redken
The half-up look got a French twist at Valentino, with an effortless twist and mismatched, individual seashell-strewn bands covered by hair for a different look on each girl. Why not partner with a local accessory designer to offer your clients bespoke accessories that can be incorporated your finished hair-up looks?
1. Apply Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer to damp hair.
2. Create a centre part and blow-dry hair with hands, twisting hair section by section to create movement.
3. Curl hair section by section using a 1-inch curling iron.
4. Loosen the curls with fingers and spray hair once again with Redken Fashion Work 12 and Pillow Proof Two Day Extender to provide added texture.
5. Apply a gold headband to the back of the head, taking hair and wrapping around the gold headband inbetween the shell adornments to hide the band. Secure with open fasteners.
