Paris fashion week spring/summer 2014: issey miyake

Eugene Souleiman created minimal mohawks for the Issey Miyake Spring/Summer 2014 show at Paris Fashion Week. Show: Issey Miyake Stylist: Eugene Souleiman for Wella Professionals The inspiration: Mirroring the play on light within the collection, creating contrasting graphic lines with an ethereal lightness - offering what appeared to be a completely different hairstyle according to your vantage point. The look: "When is a Mohawk, not a Mohawk?" asked Eugene. "When it sits between two beautifully crafted French pleats to form a hair look that is both sophisticated yet at the same time, deeply cool. "I wanted to create a look that was strong and tough," he continued, "But at the same time elegant and chic - something that utilised old hairdressing techniques but applied in a more contemporary way." [gallery ids="23835,23832,23833"] Get the look: Start with freshly shampooed and conditioned hair, using Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner. Spray hair with Perfect Setting Blow Dry Lotion and dry back away from the face to create a clean silhouette. Section off the hair on both sides of the head, leaving a panel through the middle. Working with one side at a time, gently backcomb section by section, back-combing only the first 10-15cm and spraying with Stay Styled Hairspray as you go. Brush this side section of hair back, spraying with more Stay Styled hairspray to create a clean, sharp side section. Twist the hair into a French pleat and pin in place with grips. Repeat the whole process on the opposite side of the head. Spray Stay Styled Hairspray into the roots of the front of the hair in the middle section and brush backwards to create a smooth clean finish at the front. Gently brush this middle section backwards, positioning the ‘mohawk’ between the two French pleats. Finally, spritz Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray lightly through the ends of the hair to create a dry, slightly static quality to the hair which contrasts against the clean shine of the side sections.
