The hairdressing industry offers fantastic opportunities to young people. From assisting backstage at fashion shows, to working with top name hairdressers on stage, there are plenty of ways young hairdressers can realise their dreams, gain experience and make contacts with the best of the best.
Joining a team is also a great way to get experience in stage, photographic and session work. There are numerous teams that are open to young people with vision, flair and ambition.
If this sounds like you, here are details of some of the teams you could join. Who knows, this time next year you could be working at London Fashion Week or creating imagery with some of the most inspirational hairdressers around!
ClubStar 
Who is it aimed at? ClubStar is a youth membership scheme open to hairdressers and trainees aged 16-25 who are studying for, or have completed NVQ/SVQ Level 2 and 3 or their own equivalent in-house salon training.
What opportunities does it offer? ClubStar members enjoy a star-studded education agenda of seminars and workshops from some of the leading lights of the hairdressing industry, as well as plenty of opportunities for education and networking.
How can you join? Annual membership is £60 for free entry into all ClubStar evening events and discounted entry to most Fellowship events

Clynol Protégé Team  
Who is it aimed at? Stylists aged 25 and under who work for a Clynol Profile salon.
What opportunities does it offer? Training and mentoring from Clynol's creative partners and associates , a photographic session, the opportunity to develop presentational skills and put them into practice at industry events.
How can you join? Initially send in an application, followed by an audition and judging process.

FAME Team 
Who is it aimed at? Up-and-coming hairdressers with aspirations to be in the spotlight.
What opportunities does it offer? An action-packed annual calendar of events includes up-close-and-personal seminars with iconic mentors, photographic shoots and international platform work.
How can you join? Application is open to all members of the Fellowship for British Hairdressing. Interested stylists should fill in an entry form (usually released in May) before successful applicants are invited to undergo interviews and live stage tests.

ghd Style Squad
Who is it aimed at? Fashion-forward young stylists who want to hone their finishing schools.
What opportunities does it offer? The ghd style squad get to work at Salon International and London Fashion Week, as well as enjoying mentoring from ghd ambassadors Kenna and Zoe Irwin. You'll become a session styling master, confident in finishing hair for any occasion.
How can you join? Auditions take place each year (usually in April) and consist of live hairdressing tests. Contact: Email [email protected]
Project X
Who is it aimed at? Talented, go-getting stylists keen to get ahead, learn more, network, push their hairdressing to the next level and discover where their talent really lies.
What opportunities does it offer? Described as the 'ultimate hairdressing finishing school', Project X consists of in-depth creative days with some of the industry's most high-profile experts in PR, presentation skills, session and show work and photographic shoots. Members present live on stage at Salon International and will get to take part in photoshoots.
How can you join? An application form is the first step. There is a fee payable by the salon owner and a minimum of 10 days' commitment to the London-based creative days.

L'Oréal Colour Trophy Young Colourist
Who is it aimed at? Talented colourists aged 16-25 who are passionate about hairdressing, have developed precision colour techniques and are fashion aware.
What opportunities does it offer? The prize consists of a year of education with top colourists on creative colouring techniques, consumer magazine coverage and trade media exposure as well as the chance to take part in a programme that will lead to the winners becoming a L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Specialist.
How can you join? Send in two photographs that include a before and after image of colour work. The look should demonstrate a commercial, wearable, fashion-led high street colour and finish.

L'Oréal Professionnel ID Artist team
Who is it aimed at? Hairdressers that wish to take their career to a new level with a mix of educational opportunities combined with hairdressing experiences.
What opportunities does it offer? The L'Oréal Professionnel ID Artist programme is a two-year talent development course. Experiences include taking part in presentations, stage shows, working backstage at London Fashion Week and visiting a European city on the Exposure Tour.
How can you join? National auditions.

Schwarzkopf Professional Young Artistic Team  
Who is it aimed at? Stylists aged 25 and under who work for a Schwarzkopf Professional pH salon.
What opportunities does it offer? Training from Schwarzkopf Professional's ambassadors, a photographic session with photographer John Rawson, the opportunity to develop presentational skills and put them into practice at several industry events.
How can you join? Entrants must be nominated by their employer and complete an entry form along with a recent photograph of their hair work. This is followed by an interview and presentation stage.

Sebastian Professional Cult Team
Who is it aimed at? Young hairdressers who are driven by artistry and creativity, and have a passion to redefine the future of hairdressing.
What opportunities does it offer? Education is fused with experience, such as assisting backstage at London Fashion Week, presenting shows and working with creative stylists.
How can you join? Complete an application form. Auditions are held in an X Factor style.

TIGI Inspirational Youth
Who is it aimed at? Hairdressers aged 20-25 who want to improve their creativity, stage presence and knowledge of fashion.
What opportunities does it offer? Intense training by Nick Irwin, Akos Bodi and the TIGI international creative team, with guest trainers from the world of fashion, stage production and modelling.
How can you join? Entry is on recommendation by the salon owner and judging by the TIGI team.

Wella Professionals Generation Now
Who is it aimed at? Up-and-coming hairdressers eager to make a mark.
What opportunities does it offer? Members will have the chance to work with some of the industry's most iconic hairdressers. A busy schedule offers an insight into what it takes to work at the top sector of the industry, from new product launches, and high profile consumer events such as London Fashion Week.
How can you join? Submit a CV and a written entry demonstrating knowledge of fashion and beauty trends. There is then an audition process and an interview stage.
