Eugene Souleiman created pastel-toned raw hair for the Peter Som Spring/Summer 2013 show at New York Fashion Week.

Show: Peter Som

Stylist: Eugene Souleiman for Wella Professionals

Inspiration: "Peter's collection this season has a slightly harder edge to it and I wanted to create a hair look that comes from an opposite place to give a little tension to the look," said Eugene. "I always like the contrast between sharp clothes and raw hair and this show gave me a brilliant opportunity to play with this."

"This look is a hybrid of many influences from grunge and the 80s, through to modern day cool girls of New York's East Village. It's all about attitude and strength rather than being pretty. It's about the confidence that comes with knowing who you are and where you want to be."

The look: Eugene approached the hair look by treating it as fabric and referenced the kind of treatments that denim goes through as an example of his approach to creating the hair style.

Pieces of coloured hair were added to the head in what Eugene described as "not the obvious places" to provide an extra dimension to the hair look and give more of a spontaneous feel.

The hair pieces, in a washed out mineral and metallic palette, were created in collaboration with Wella Professionals Colour Ambassador for North America, Aura.

Get the look: Start with clean freshly washed and conditioned hair, using Wella Professionals Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner, to preserve the brilliant shine of colour treated hair.

Towel dry and apply Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier to prime the hair for styling.

Where possible, allow the hair to dry naturally, alternatively loosely blow-dry with hands for a tousled natural effect.

Part hair in the middle and insert extension pieces throughout for desired amount of colour. Lightly mist with Wella Professionals Create Character Texturising Spray throughout the hair to create texture.

Twist hair in to a loose low bun and secure with a clip, allowing the hair to set for a loose wave effect once the clip has been removed. For the finishing touch, take a tiny amount of Wella's System Professional Perfect Ends and apply to the ends of the hair with finger tips to provide definition and separation.

Key products: Wella Professionals Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner, Velvet Amplifier Style Primer, Create Character Texturising Spray, SP Perfect Ends
