My introduction to the hairdressing industry

My first month as acting features editor of HJ is nearly over - and it's flown by. I've joined at an exciting time. I'd only been in my new role for a week when I was mingling with the top movers and shakers of the industry at the British Hairdressing Awards.
Now, after 20 years as a journalist, I've attended my fair share of industry awards ceromonies and they were never like this! For a start, there were so many good looking people - with a sense of style. Also, the people receiving the awards were obviously overjoyed. Even for a jaded hack like me, it was a moving experinece to see British Hairdresser of the Year Andrew Barton drop to his knees in ecstasy after being presented with his trophy.A week later and I was mixing with the beautiful people again - this time at the Fellowship luncheon, where I was lucky enough to share a table with the charming Mr Barton. Andrew was still grinning and his excitement and enthusiasm, I already realise, are indicative of this industry.
This week I had my first taste of a hair product launch when I attended the press reception for the new styler from GHD. It was similar in style to other product launches, except at this one I was the only male member of the press. I think I may have to get used to being the only boy in the press pack.
It's head down now until Christmas and a short break, but I'm already looking forward to what 2007 will offer by way of new and exciting experiences this fantastically creative industry.
