Modern minimalism meets georgian charm at buzby and blue

Buzby and Blue salon interior When Christopher Friend and Nigel Faulkner discovered a stunning Grade-II listed building in the historic heart of Chichester, they knew they were part way to creating their dream salon. The result, Buzby & Blue, is a beautiful combination of Georgian elegance and contemporary chic with an assortment of quirky features to ensure clients never get bored.
The friends wanted to create a salon with an English heritage, incorporating its historic roots, but with a modern boutique feel that would appeal to a wide spectrum of clients.
The premises had to undergo a complete refit, including removing the shop front and back in order to include the large 6m sliding glass doors to the courtyard garden. These doors allow plenty of natural light into the main salon.
A key element of the project was to make a visual impact with the vast, bright reception area, with its retro red reception desk and black and white checkered tiled floor.
The vision was to achieve a trendy, modern salon keeping the Georgian identity using statement wallpapers and luxurious salon items. The result is a fresh, innovative design which meets the friends' design dreams.

Buzby and Blue in brief...
What was the most expensive part of the refit?
The electrics. We had to completely rewire due to the age of the property.
What was the best and worst thing you did?
The best was bringing two salons together into one. The worst was not doing it sooner!
What was the most important part of the design brief?
Not compromising on quality.
Were there any problems?
Only that the local authorities wouldn't allow us to install lights outside the front of the shop.
