The L'Oreal Professionnel Colour Trophy Young Colourist Award took on a new direction for 2011, with technical and knowledge-based live finals.
After the initial photographic stage, five young hairdressers were chosen in each of the seven regional finals to take part on a special live event in Manchestercheck and London.
For the first time, the 35 finalists were required to work on a mannequin head and demonstrate their raw technical skills to a panel of judges, which included Chris Williams from Rush Hair, Kate Wilson from Trevor Sorbie, Jaclyn Smith from Jo Hansford and Mario Charalambous from Richard Ward.
The finalists faced two main challenges; T-section highlights and creative colour, with judges looking at equipment usage, precision placement, colour choices and overall look.
One winner from each of the seven regions will be chosen to form the brand new L'Oréal Colour Academy and the full line-up will be announced during the 2011 L'Oréal Colour Trophy Grand Final on July 4th inside the Grosvenor House, London.
