Mid-length layered men's hair - step-by-step
Embrace the natural movement in men's hair by creating this textured, longer look, as demonstrated by Claudio Orzi for TIGI.
Step One: Take a central profile part from the forehead to the nape followed by a horseshoe section at the high recession. Starting at the side, work with diagonal back sections. Comb and elevate the hair to 90 degrees and blunt-cut squarely to the head shape. Continue working towards the back. Overdirect each section to the previous section to create movement and build up weight towards the back.
Step Two: Behind the ear, work consistently with the same technique until the centre back is reached. Note the change of hand and body position. Repeat the same technique on the opposite side.
Step Three: Cross-check for balance before proceeding.
Step Four: Keep the technique consistent and blunt-cut squarely to the head shape to complete the underneath area.
Step Five: Comb the hair to its natural fall and reshape the perimeter working parallel to the hairline. Point-cut the hair for softness at a low elevation.
Step Six: At the top, take a central parting from the crown to the forehead and then a radial division from ear to ear across the crown. Starting at the centre back work with pivoting sections towards the sides. Comb the hair to 90 degrees and elevate to follow the guide squarely from the underneath.
Step Seven: Now take a central vertical section from the crown to the forehead. Using the guide from the back, comb and elevate to 90 degrees to the top of the head and point-cut the layers squarely to the head shape.
Step Eight: Work with slight diagonal sections from the ear forwards. Comb each section to 90 degrees and overdirect to the square guideline at the top.
Step Nine: The last section at the front is overdirected backwards to maintain length and weight through the perimeter.
Step Ten: Maintain the hand and body position and repeat the same technique on the other side.
Step Eleven: Again take a radial division at the back of the ear. Working with pivoting sections, comb the hair to 90 degrees and elevate to blend squarely with the underneath area.
Step Twelve: In front of the ear overdirect each section slightly backwards to maintain weight through the front perimeter. Repeat the same technique on the opposite side.
Step Thirteen: Comb the hair forwards to reshape the perimeter by point-cutting at a low elevation.
Step Fourrteen: Upon completion of the cut, blow-dry the hair using the hands directing away from the face.
