At the
Met Gala 2022, attendees were called upon to embody the grandeur of Gilded Age New York. The A Lister's wowed us from head to toe, but we needn’t remind you that this is HJ. So, we bring to you what we know best – our showstopper hair looks from the Met Gala 2022...
This year’s theme, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” (the second of the two-part Costume Institute exhibition) welcomed the collection of our most sought-after celebs to prove that, all that glitters is in fact gold.
Met Gala 2022 Showstopper Hair Looks
Simone Ashley
“I love Bridgerton star Simone Ashley's ponytail with a 1920s twist. It's the right side of retro with the Marcel-inspired wave at the front, but the high shine finish and surprise uber-long ponytail at the back keeps the look modern and fresh,” says Charlotte Grant-West, editor for Hairdresser’s Journal.
Find out here how to master that
high fashion, high-shine finish.
Bella Hadid
“I love Bella Hadid’s half-updo by hairstylist Evanie Frausto. From the subtle details of the
curtain bangs and baby braids at the front, to the braid wrapped around the half-updo at the back, this look is giving me Bridgerton vibes and elegance,” shares Chloe Weldon, content writer for Hairdresser’s Journal.
Laura Harrier
“Laura Harrier’s wet-look bob was completely on the money. The flicked ends are super on-trend whilst her soft waves and curled edges throw light to the late 1800s that this year’s theme riffs off,” adds Chloe Woodland, editorial intern for Hairdresser’s Journal.
And now, a word from some of our experts...
Gigi Hadid
"Gigi Hadid sported one of the most striking looks at this year’s Met Gala. Her messy chignon is a huge trend this year and one we will see more of as we head into 2022 for clients looking to try the most contemporary top knot style that takes inspiration from the 90s. This is a very ‘off duty model’ look and Gigi wore it to perfection," says Joana Neves, editorial director at ALTERNA.
Sophie Turner
"Sophie Turner’s hair look was one of my favourites at this year’s Met Gala. Her crimson-coloured red locks were worn super long, touching just above her bump and styled into super glossy, mermaid style waves – a huge trend as we come into the summer season," states Karen Thomson, owner of KAM Hair and Body Spa.
Emma Chamberlain
"Although simple, Emma Chamberlain’s hair at this year’s Met Gala really made a statement. Emma sported her new, soft and milky blonde hair colour with a blunt long bob, which complimented her outfit and makeup choices magnificently. Her blonde looked luxe and soft to touch, which is key to blondes this spring/summer," says Suzie McGill, artistic director at Rainbow Room International.
Kaia Gerber
"2022 is definitely the year of texture and curls, and Kaia Gerber definitely delivered as she stepped out onto the Met Gala red carpet last night. Full of volume and length, her waist-length curls did not disappoint and ensured all eyes were on her," adds Simon Hill, owner of SESH Hairdressing.
Vanessa Hudgens
"Vanessa Hudgens is having a major moment for me and I love her current style and fashion. Paired with her extravagant and sexy dress, Vanessa’s braided updo stole the show for me. Her hair was twisted and braided upwards and secured at the crown of her head," says Jay Birmingham, celebrity hairdresser.
Billie Eilish
"Billie Eilish stood out again for all the right reasons on the red carpet. Her hair gave us faux mohawk vibes and we loved it. Her cropped hair was pulled upwards to create a soft spike around the crown of her head. To soften her style, loose pieces of hair fell perfectly around her face to tie in with her on-trend bangs," states Brian Leo McCallum, owner of ROAR Hair and Beauty.
Kim Kardashian
"Having only witnessed Kim with gorgeous deep brunette locks on Sunday evening at the White House Dinner, we did not expect the platinum blonde locks to make a come back last night. Pulled into a tight, low-level bun at the nape of the neck, the hair was kept simple to ensure no attention was taken away from her incredibly stunning gown – worn by Marilyn Monroe many years ago." shares Paul Watts, owner of Paul Watts Hairdressing.
