Guy Kremer is an internationally renowned hairdresser famed for his ability to transform women into beautiful goddesses - but he's just as passionate about men's hairdressing.

His abilities as a men's stylist were recognised in 1993 when he won the title of HJ's Men's Hairdresser of the Year, and 17 years later his enthusiasm, and skills, have not diminished.

Here's his take men's hairdressing and future trends for male grooming.

What do you enjoy most about cutting men's hair?

For me, it's just as exciting to transform a man from an ordinary guy into someone who looks like a male model, as it is to transform a woman. I enjoy cutting men's hair as many men have very strong features which the right haircut can enhance.

What are the major challenges in creating a good men's haircut?

The main challenge is to work with the man's natural hairline. Often men are balding or receding, and it's about working with this characteristic rather than trying to disguise it. I often make a feature of a high hairline if the client has thick hair. If the hair is very fine and thin, it is probably better to keep it very short. It's all about working with the texture of the hair.

What else must you take into account to deliver a great men's haircut?

I study the facial features, hairlines, hair texture, but also the client's lifestyle. If he is a barrister, for example, he won't appreciate a full-head bleach.

Is colour a growth part of your men's business?

We are getting more requests for naturally sunkissed-looking colour rather than the old-fashioned blonde highlights. The trend is towards shades that look natural rather than obviously coloured.

What will be the trends in men's hairstyles over the next six months?

I think we will continue to see a lot of hair that is short at the sides and back with length and texture on top, including curls and more movement. I think we'll also see an increasing number of men experimenting with straighteners to create a quiff effect. Men are prepared to spend a lot more time on their hair now - as much as women. They are much more aware of what products work for them too - we are selling lots more waxes and pastes.

What celebrities do you think will influence men's hairstyles?

Cristiano Ronaldo is coming into his own as a style icon, particularly with the Armani campaign; also the model David Gandy has a great sense of style and very on-trend hair. For

the older man, I think Robert Downey will be a big style icon.
