Men's hair goes military style

Akin-men.jpgIt's no secret that male grooming is now a fundamental part of the hair industry, with men making up nearly a third of salon clientele.

Many leading manufacturers now have bespoke men's ranges, shows, seminars and stands throughout Salon International were all demonstrating the return to barber shop style.

Taking inspiration from the short back and sides of the 50s, men's hair had a military feel with hair left slightly longer on top for a smart look with an edgy twist.

"This looks is very in and very flattering," explains Akin Konizi, artistic director for hob salons.

"It is very much a barbered look from the 50s with a military feel to it. Use a scissor over comb technique and keep it very neat."

Akin believes that men are now an core part of the salon clientele, who need to be looked after and nurtured, but he has no question who to thank for the transition: David Beckham.

He adds: "David Beckham has done us all a favour and shown men that it is okay to look after ourselves.

"Male grooming is a big thing at the moment and I think it is going to continue to grow."
