Melissa Timperley has launched an app which promises users a ‘professional bootcamp’ in precision cutting.
Available on Apple and Android devices, MT Masterclass is an extension of Melissa’s one-day precision cutting course which has been running monthly in Manchester throughout 2023. Bringing together a series of step-by-step videos demonstrating some of her most requested cuts – including the one-length bob, pixie cut, face-framing layers and the ‘InstaFringe’ – MT Masterclass offers the opportunity to learn at your own pace, at a time and place to suit you.
Designed to enhance your cutting confidence and help refine cutting techniques, the app is a response to feedback from those unable to attend Melissa’s course in person. Sassoon-trained, Melissa devised MT Masterclass after personally re-training her salon team, having noticed gaps in their cutting expertise. Realising the situation was likely to be the same in salons across the country, Melissa set about compiling a comprehensive guide to precision cutting, utilising the years of experience and expertise she has acquired throughout an award-winning career.
“Whether you’re a recently qualified hairdresser or have been working in the industry for decades, this app has been created to teach you the techniques to elevate your precision cutting to the next level,” says Melissa. “From creating perfectly straight lines to understand how to texturise without the use of thinning scissors, MT Masterclass will become your go-to app for honing those haircuts that may have previously thrown you into panic.”
Kicking off with ‘welcome’ videos from the MT Masterclass Educators, as well as two free tutorials (one-length bob and curly mullet), the app is divided into ‘Lessons’, accessed via a subscription:

Subscriptions are priced at £10.99 a month, or £18.99 a month for the ‘access all areas’ premium plan, which includes interactive feedback and community engagement. Alternatively, subscribers can save 25% by signing up for the £99 annual subscription.
“We’ve shot our tutorials from multiple angles, offering a 360-degree view of each cut to ensure your complete understanding of our techniques,” Melissa adds. “There are tips throughout to aid each cut, as well as clear voiceovers explaining each step of the process, from sectioning to finishing and refining.
