Alexander Turnbull from Alexander Hair and Beauty, Hull, and Marcus King from Hooker & Young in Newcastle joined forces at the latest Matrix Revolution Live show in Edinburgh.

Drawing on references from the catwalks of Vivienne Westwood and Vera Wang, Alexander and Marcus packed their presentation with translatable trends. Sharp edges with a vintage feel screamed glamour and laid the foundation for looks that provided an unexpected twist on the Digital Design concept. Moving away from texture, they enhanced sharpness to convey a digital edge.

On shorter styles this translated into cuts being taken right down to the nape of the neck while on longer looks and bobs, blunt fringes and solid lines replaced the classic graduation. Colour placements in bold, solid sections saw contrasting fringes and artful mixes of opposite shades inspired by the striking impact of monochrome.

The pair also offered these tips to the audience:

1 These bold looks can be taken down in extremity for clients wishing to experiment with something a little more daring - try placing colour in a line of sections rather than weaving for a subtle adjustment

2 For true wearability, everything in your style should move - shine spray is a must

3 When it comes to product, less is more! Expand your knowledge by cocktailing products. This will effectively double your palette and give you a creative edge with your clients.

4 Draw ideas from your basic cutting knowledge and then shatter them! Think outside the box, be dynamic and inspire your clients with new and different ideas that are anchored by excellent technique.
