Mahogany rock sensuals seminar - salon international 2012
Debbie Harry and Patti Smith were among the 1970s rock chick heroines to inspire Mahogany's latest collection, Rock Sensuals.
The Mahogany team - who also listed David Bowie, Roxy Music, sci-fi and Cabaret among their influences - revealed the new looks at Salon International, where they demonstrated a series of cut and colour techniques to a large audience.
International creative director Colin Greaney and senior creative director Neil Atkinson were among those presenting.
The collection included mismatched fringes, disconnected layers and two-tiered bobs, paying homage to glam rock and the 1930s theatre that inspired it.
The strong wedge haircuts of late 70s band The Human League also made an appearance, albeit with a more modern, feminine twist.
The overall look was described as encapsulating, "Girls with attitude, girls with strength and girls who know what they want."
In terms of colour, there was a huge array of shades, from warm apricots and reds to pink and navy slices scattered through platinum blonde hair. Tai Walker, Mahogany's Head of Colour, said he was influenced by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama for this collection.
Kusama's installation - a mirrored room filled with lights to create a feeling of infinity - was emulated in the hair colour through different shades and tones playing off against each other, creating a rich and vibrant finish.
