London hairdresser of the year 2011 - richard mannah
Sensational use of colour gave the wow factor to Richard Mannah's collection that won him the London Hairdresser of the Year 2011 accolade.
Richard revealed that getting the right team, whom you share great chemistry with, is one of the main secrets behind shooting an award-winning collection. Why did you decide to enter the British Hairdressing Awards?
It has always been a dream of mine to one day win London Hairdresser of the year at the British Hair Awards. For me they are the most prestigious hair awards in the world.
When did you start thinking about your collection?
I began to think about my collection back in February.
How did you find a photographer, stylist and makeup artist?
I worked with my brother, David Mannah, who is such a great photographer. He and I have excellent creative chemistry.
Tell us a little about your models. What do you look for in a hair model? How did you source them and how much did they cost?
I always like to use professional models as I think it is very important not to compromise with them. I did two castings for each shoot and chose the girls I felt best represented my collection.
How long did it take from the day of the shoot to sending off a collection you were happy with?
We shot the first round one month in advance so we had plenty of time, but on the second shoot we only had a week to get the models in and perfect their overall looks.
What three tips would you give to people considering entering the British Hairdressing Awards?
- Carry out as much research as possible.
- You will need to find a great team to help you reach your full potential and help get your vision across in each of the shots.
- Always make sure you are prepared and most importantly - just have fun.
