Natural texture, sophisticated and slicked back, extreme wet looks with nods to the 80s and the 90s – it could only be the hair looks for London Collections Men June 2016, and HJ Men was backstage at shows throughout the four days to capture it all.
NATURAL TEXTURE

Sometimes less is more and designers wanted simple, natural looking styles to complement their clothes on the catwalk. The natural movement of 80s acting sensation River Phoenix’s hair inspired the looks for the
E.Tautz show, with Kevin Luchmun heading up a team from Toni & Guy to create voluminous manes, using label.men grooming Cream and Hairspray.
Natural texture was also the brief from designer
Barbour for a team of stylists from headmasters working with L’Oréal Professionnel. The team created effortless looking styles, swept back from the models’ faces, using products including Sculpte and Tecni Art Pli.
For
John Smedley, Cristiano Basciu and a team from Richard Ward Hair and Metrospa created casual, everyday looks with a bit of a street-wise edge, using L’Oréal Professionnel Sculpte and Tecni Art Density Material.
At
Belstaff Tina Outen worked with Fudge Professional to create looks inspired by the concept of biker’s helmet hair – flat to the head with a greasy texture and a light kink to create a windswept look. Key products included Fudge Professional Tri-Blo and Blow Dry Putty.
The hair brief for
Sibling was Roman God meets beach boy and the team, led by Tina Outen, created textured and curly looks using such hero products as Fudge professional Tri Blo and Curve Maker.

SLICKED BACK
A showcase of famous menswear brands from the Jermyn Street and St James St, the
Jermyn Street Designers show featured classic, quintessentially British hair looks courtesy of a team from Toni & Guy. Looks were created using lebel.m Volume Mouse and Sea Salt Spray for a little height and texture, but an ultimately groomed finish.
Another team from Toni & Guy created slicked back styles with a modern edge for
Hardy Aimes using Volume Mousse and finishing with lable.men Sculpting Pomade.
At
Top Man the hair looks were slicked back but with a real “geezer” feel to them – think 80s Casuals. Key products to achieve the high-shine finish included Fudge Professsional Hair Gum, Gloss and Head Shine.
There was more high-shine hair at
Katie Eary, where slippery barracudas were the inspiration for the wet-look finish. Slicks of colour were added using Fudge Professional Paintbox colour, diluted with Gloss Hair Gum.

GRUNGE
The 90s grunge scene inspired the hair looks at
Matthew Miller where lebel.m Salt Spray and Thickening Tonic were used to create effortless, textured styles.
The 80s rave scene provided inspiration for lived-in, gritty hair looks at
House of Holland. Key products included label.m Grooming Cream and Sculpting Pomade.
