Let it snow - not!
I love the snow - in France, Austria or anywhere where ski lifts abound, hot chocolate and spaghetti bolognaise is a must-have for lunch and mulled wine is de rigeur in the evening! Not when I am trying to juggle the school run with getting to the office and the team are having to battle their way in with no grit on the roads and the trains not running because it is the wrong type of snow! That said, today - Saturday - has been great fun as me and the boys have been tobogganing and it was absoutely hilarious. It is amazing how even those with the nickname 'Health and Safety' throw caution to the wind in order to come flying down the side of a hill on a small piece of plastic! Never one to back off on a snowball fight either (as those who were in Val D'Isere two years ago know only too well) the afternoon ended with some very cold but happy children and parents (and pretty awful hair that was being accessorised by icicles)!
For business though, this continued cold snap is is a nightmare. Some dedicated clients have battled the elements to get in for their cut and colour, but many more are unable to travel and although rebooking, it is costing salons up and down the country money. I appreciate that there is nothing that can be done to control the weather, but surely the county could have been managed somewhat better so that we are not now having to limit the amount of grit being spread as we are nearing crisis point, and running out! Other countries manage to get it right - so why does the UK not get itself organised? x
