Learn to cut a versatile sporty men's style - step-by-step
Master diverse cutting techniques to create this sporty and versatile men's cut, as demonstrated by Marco Iafrate for TIGI, with colour by Stephanie Senner for TIGI.
Step one: Shampoo and condition the hair and apply a cutting lotion.
Step two: To separate the sides from the top, take a curved diagonal back section from the high point of recession.
Step three: Starting at the side, work with diagonal back sections. Comb the hair perpendicular to the parting, elevate to 45 degrees and blunt-cut to start building the graduation.
Step four: Continue working towards the back using the same technique. Keep the technique consistent to build the weight slowly and gradually towards the horseshoe and occipital bone.
Step five: Detail the hairline by point-cutting.
Step six: Now take a curved diagonal back section from the top of the occipital to the high point of the recession on the opposite side of the head.
Step seven: Note the change of hand position and repeat the same technique on the opposite side.
Step eight: Further detail the hairline using freehand point-cutting.
Step nine: Now take another diagonal section from below the crown to the front hair-line. Comb the hair to the natural fall and elevate to a stationary 45 degree angle. Use point-cutting to create a slight disconnection from the underneath graduation.
Step ten: Continue with the same technique until the centre parting is reached.
Step eleven: To complete the top, repeat the same technique on the opposite side.
Step twelve: Now apply bodifying spray to the hair then blow-dry with a small paddle brush.
Step thirteen: Using thinning shears remove a small amount of weight from the mid-shaft of the hair.
Step fourteen: Continue detailing the shape using deep parallel point-cutting and brick-cutting.
Step fifteen: To finish, apply Bed Head Stick then brush into desired shape.
