The L'Oreal Professionnel Portfolio team, headed up by Joe Nions of Cutting Room Creative and Herman Ho from Headmasters, enjoyed an action-packed yet exhilarating week at Graduate Fashion week.

The 22-strong team of young stylists worked tirelessly backstage to create catwalk hair from intricate updos to loose natural curls for 20 college shows.

Then after an exhausting week, their creations were put before Fashion's A-list at the Graduate Fashion Week Gala Show and Awards.

Introducing the awards Clothes Show presenter Caryn Franklin, host for the evening said: "This is the definitive place to spot the hottest design talent around".

With awards presented by industry icons including Gareth Pugh, Zhandra Rhodes, Gok Wan, Henry Holland, model of the moment Agynes Deyn (pictured) and Claudia Schiffer, and guests including Jeff Banks and Julien MacDonald, it was essential that the hair lived up to the occasion.

The team didn't disappoint, creating three distinct looks that reflected the season's key trends:

Hair was scraped into tight chignons at the nape of the neck with long, straight fringes bringing the look upto the minute. By using contrasting colours to emphasise the fringe, the team created a young, cheeky look.

'Movement' is the current buzzword and the team conveyed this by creating tousled waves that were completed with dramatic dishevelled fishtail plaits.

The final look added a touch of glamour, with models displaying black, glossy bobs with blunt fringes, reminiscent of Yves Saint Laurent show at Paris Fashion Week in February.

The young team of stylists were thrilled to be chosen to work with L'Oréal Professionnel on this exciting event.  For many, it was their first taste of the fast paced world of backstage session work and although at times it was difficult and exhausting they all agreed it was well worth it.

"I only qualified at Christmas and was at first worried about being able to keep up but the team have been fantastic and helped me out if I have needed them.

"For a young stylist you couldn't ask for a better experience as it has taught me about a completely different aspect of hairdressing...and one now that I really enjoy!" said Sky Williams from Session Spa.
