Key trends on display at salon international

The talent is on the stage, the music is blaring out, the hairdressing crowd are getting excited: it can only mean one thing: Salon International is back in town.

Hundreds of exhibitors from across the globe have flocked to ExCel to demonstrate everything from hair extensions to colouring techniques to wet shaves and the very latest in scissors.

Eagerly awaiting their displays, soaking up the atmosphere and seeking inspiration for new products and techniques are thousands of visitors of all ages and levels of experience.

And if the exhibitors have a global feel, that's nothing compared to the guests. In one seminar alone visitors came from as far afield as Denmark, Slovenia, Hungry, Sweden, Finland, Japan, Korea, Italy, Germany, Australia. Talk about multi cultural!

However, despite the diversity of both the exhibitors and the visitors, certain trends and themes emerged on day one that could be seen across the Hair Show and the live shows:

  • Asymmetry: Be it long hair, short hair or mid-length the left side and the right side just had to look different for an edgy feel.

  • Glamour: Beauty is back in a big way. All over the Hair Show red carpet looks were created with all the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. We're seeing voluminous waves and curls galore.

  • Short back and sides: The must have look for the modern man - but it has to be longer and quirkier on top for a versatile style.

  • Violet: From midnight blues to less intense mauve shades, subtle purple shades are giving blondes and deep brunettes a new twist.

  • Precision cutting: It's all in the technique, so say goodbye to point cutting and get working those lines.

  • Movement: Forget over-processed, over ironed hair. In 2008 movement and balance are the key to great looking hair.

Log on soon for images of the key trends.
