Key trends at salon international 2010

Creativity and flair are always the key words at Salon International, where some of the brightest, most talented hairdressers in the business showcase their work and share the newest techniques.

But while everyone is busy putting their own stamp on their creations and giving them their own twist, there are always key trends that emerge from the weekend.

These are some of the recurring trends that we've spotted at Salon International 2010:

  • Hair tattooing is big this year, with both Wahl and Andis demonstrating the technique on their stages. At the Andis stage male and female models showed it's not just about the boys with some artful clipper cutting creating stunning designs.

  • Red is definitely still the colour of the moment with catwalk shows and new product launches all reflecting its on-trend status.

  • Loads of beautiful long hair at TIGI, but with grungy texture and cool finishes - it's not just hanging there!

  • There is also an abundance of lovely short hair and head-hugging shapes, especially in the Salon Seminars and the British Hairdressing Awards finalists collections galleries.

  • With Cheryl Cole and Victoria Beckham loving their extensions again, the extension companies were swarming with visitors. Ponytails, wefts and coloured strands were flying off the shelves.
