The world's top fashion editors and designers have already given their opinion on what Kate Middleton should wear for her royal wedding next year; but what about her hair?

We've spoken to a selection of acclaimed haidressers, to see how they think the princess-to-be should wear her hair on the big day...

"As Kate becomes royalty, a look of elegance and sophistication is ideal. Depending on the style of dress she opts for, her tresses would look beautiful simply pinned loosely off her face in to a low slung side bun to deliver a natural and soft style. Taking inspiration for the Spring/Summer '11 poetic glamour trend, I would incorporate voluminous curls with loose tendrils left to fall freely from the up-o, allowing them to gently cascade down her neck and frame her face. Showcasing her natural beauty, this could then be accessorized with a vintage brooch from the royal collection, giving added interest and a stunning on-trend bridal finish."

"Kate has great quality hair which shines with health. I forsee that her long tresses - which rarely looked styled - will become more groomed as we see more of her in the limelight; perhaps worn fuller and more bouncy. I predict she'll wear something simple and elegant, influenced by a ballerina bun. Worn away from her face and low in the nape, this timeless classic will ensure she looks groomed throughout her big day, perhaps with an elegant tiara gently held in place. It's important for her to feel herself and feel confident with her look with the whole world looking at her."

"Kate has healthy long hair, and for her big day I don't think she will move away from the loose curls we saw at the engagement announcement. While her look is quite classic, she is still young and stylish, so I would like to see the movement more defined, and with more volume at the crown. I think there is a possibility that Kate could be wearing Diana's tiara but she will go for a subtle, delicate veil."

"Kate will opt for something, soft, loose and romantic - however she has such a beautiful face, that she could carry of a much more interesting style. We would love to see a structured hair up on the wedding day, but that is just not her style; she will play it safe and sophisticated."

"I think for her wedding day, Kate will wear her hair half up and half down. I think the front sections will be more traditional and be taken off the face, in order to hold a heirloom accessory, but the back will be down and very relaxed to show a break away from tradition and that she is still very much her own women."

"I do a lot of weddings, as many of us do, and I think the mistake that some brides make is to go for an over-formal updo that can age them and look harsh - not least of which the Royals!  Kate has fabulous hair and I would like to see her buck the trend and wear her hair down... beautifully styled with lots of movement, pinned at the front or sides to show off her tiara, but simple and understated, in contrast to everything else which will be totally OTT! This kind of feminine, undone-but-glam look is timeless and will still look fresh and fabulous in those photos in years to come."

"My favourite hairstyle for a bride has to be the classic chignon. It's understated, can be worn with a veil or simply accessorised for a more modern finish, and works with any style of dress. For a more interesting finish, Kate could try a double chignon. This would suit Kate perfectly and is easy to translate for your own wedding. Personally, I prefer it without a veil, but worn with gorgeous accessories."

"Colour can transform what could be otherwise a very classic hair up. The wedding day is often associated with the kind of hair you don't normally wear, so I would suggest going for something that really is inspired by fashion and looks effortlessly undone. Add to this some really beautiful colour, and you have a look that everyone would want and wear - not just on their big day. Taking into account Kate's colouring, adding in some contrasting colour in both lighter and darker shades could really add a dynamic edge and ensure that the look is current."

"It is essential that Kate looks herself on her wedding day, rather than a china doll. She is only young, and I think a soft low slung chignon that is not too tight or overdone would be the best way for Kate to go. Choosing a more tousled look like this will show off her natural beauty."

"Kate is naturally so stunning, a true English rose. I would like to see something very classic and simple.  A chignon would be perfect, very loosely styled with trestles of hair falling."

"A lot of people will be desperate to get their hands on her hair to give her an updated look because she is young and fresh, but I think that her elegant and simple style lets her natural beauty shine through. She's a beautiful person with great bone structure so can carry off almost any look, but next year will see a softening of glossy high fashion hair, so I think a soft updo would be perfect, matching her own style as well as a royal wedding."

"I think she will have a hair up. With her being young, I think she will keep with the current fashion, trends and have something soft and loose. Maybe a high bun but with a 'Royal' twist!"

"Kate is blessed with long lustrous locks; at the official announcement of her engagement she was flawless and elegant, yet completely in keeping with her age and style.  I predict she'll choose a 50's Hollywood updo, which will be sophisticated and über glamorous. Influenced by the classic Breakfast at Tiffany's film, this elegant style will show off her beautiful long neck and true English rose complexion. It'll be glamour all the way, in a simple, sophisticated, but educated way!"

"I think Kate should wear her hair up for her big day. In all the pictures we see of her, she has her hair blow-dried and down. She is obviou sly comfortable with her hair down, so I think the updo should definitely have an "undone" feel to it, so it is looser and not head-hugging at all, but more "floaty" with lots volume and oozing romance."

"Kate is a gorgeous girl with a classic and elegant style which I believe she will mirror on her wedding day. A simple yet classic bun would be fitting for her image; stylish without too much fuss. To create this look I would first use a volumising spray to blow-dry into hair and create body, and to style the bun, I would use a shine wax to smooth, define and hold, finishing with a blast of shine spray to create great shine that will last all day."

"Kate has beautiful thick hair, which always looks shiny and healthy - a plus for any bride, as no-one looks chic with split ends!. I think Kate should keep it simple, chic and classic for the big day; perhaps Audrey Hepburn-esque. A simple, soft bun worn to the side would be ideal; it's a look that will remain timeless. Alternatively, she could go for a soft-tonged look which is popular with modern brides. and is a look she may feel more comfortable with as I've not really seen her with her hair up before. Whatever she goes for, the dress is going to play a big part in her decision. But I'll stick to my guns and say I would like to see quite natural and chic, as this personifies the Kate that we've known so far."

"I think that Kate should go for a structured updo, such as a high ponytail base with a soft yet polished finish. By sweeping the hair off her face it would complement her bone structure, lifting the eyes and enhancing the jaw line. It would be nice to see Kate making a statement on the day in contrast to the familiar hair down do."
