Instagram reveals the world's most popular hairstyles

New analysis of Instagram posts has revealed the most popular hairstyles across the world - from bobs to bangs, some old classics and trendy new entries have made it on the hair hit list. With almost 18 million Instagram posts, braids have taken the top spot as the world’s most popular hairstyle, with undercuts snagging second place. Featuring a wide range of styles to master, braids are a trend which never go out of fashion – both in the salon and for clients at home. The research, carried out by Tajmeeli, also shows that some of 2021’s most famous trends are no stranger to being snapped on Instagram. The 1980’s mullet, known as a Miley Cyrus staple, came in at number 10 on the list, with almost 878,000 posts. The style has made its comeback this year as Miley debuted her platinum blonde take on the mullet – joined by celebs such as Billie Eilish and Demi Lovato. Cosmetic surgery education site Tajmeeli curated the top 25 list based on the number of times each style was shared on Instagram through hashtags, meaning every client picture counts. Short styles dominated the list, with the pixie cut, bob, and fade all having over two million posts. No stranger to choppy cuts and bright colours, Billie Eilish was ranked as the top celebrity for hair inspiration worldwide, boasting the most amount of google searches for her hairstyles in the last year. Meanwhile, the high ponytail made famous by Ariana Grande back in 2014 is shown to still be a dominating trend, as the style gathered 219k Instagram posts. The singer is known for her thick up-do which falls to her shoulders, making her the third most googled celebrity hair inspiration – with 170k searches worldwide. Some popular client lockdown looks also made the top 25, such as space buns and bubble ponytails.
