In the bag: plastic fantastic styles a mini autumn/winter trend

Plastic bags might not seem the most fashionable accessory to tote around fashion week, but the humble carrier made a surprise appearance at two shows this season.
At Louise Gray's Autumn/Winter 2013 show, plastic bags were incorporated into the hair to create floating headpieces that complemented punky styles created Nick Irwin and the TIGI Session Team.
"I'm into recycling," the London designer told
Vogue. "It's a concept!"

Plastic bags were a surprise styling accessory at Vivienne Westwood too, where Sam McKnight incorporated them into long braids.
As a proud eco-warrier, Vivienne provided Sam with recycled bags from her stores to use in the hair - wonder if the models took their stuff home in them after the show?
The plastic braids worked with Val Garland's technicolour update on Medieval style and Marian Newman's bright blue nails for a head-to-toe statement look.
Whether you're into recycling, DIY style or are just looking for something entirely different to dress up hair for a show, could the humble carrier bag have elevated itself to new stylish levels?
Without wishing to sound like
the plastic bag boy from American Beauty, there really is something quite elegant in the way that the bags move at
the Louise Gray show.
And while the braids at Vivienne Westwood aren't perhaps so noticeable, that almost make them more striking - I can imagine them glistening slightly under the show lights for an ethereal effect.
This season isn't the first time the humble shopping bag has had a fashionable update - check out these other catwalk interpretations of the carrier:
