Artist Hugh Cooney's Italo Sunsets exhibition has opened at Radio Salon and Gallery; the Bumble and bumble UK flagship salon in Shoreditch, East London.
The salon has long held a reputation for cool, confident, forward-thinking hair, something which they have further encouraged by hosting regular exhibitions, gigs and parties.
Italo Sunsets draws its inspiration from Italo-Disco, the progressive and energetic musical genre that became the throbbing heart of dance music in the early 1980s. Visuals were equally important to Italo with sunsets quickly becoming a visual signifier for the genre, going hand-in-hand with the Italo sound as it spread from Milan to Miami, Livorno to Los Angeles, as a generation of European interlopers breathed new life into the new world.
Hugh Cooney's Italo Sunsets are illustrated using basic paint programs and ooze moody nostalgia.
The exhibition was launched at Radio to coincide with the salon's fourth birthday, with a prosecco and Italo-fuelled party attended by clients and art-lovers.
