Working with brands is a big part of establishing yourself as an authoritative voice in hairdressing - in this series we talk to stylists that have formed a partnership with huge brands, how they did it and why it works...
Hooker and Young co-created the Wahl Style Collection with the brand.
We were lucky as we got approached directly by Wahl. It all began when Simon Shaw, global artistic director of Wahl UK, told us the brand was launching a new range of women's electrical styling tools and asked for our styling expertise to co-create it.

When working with a brand it’s important to genuinely love the brand. People can see through any fake feelings straightaway, especially if you're presenting on stage. The products needs to fit with your personal branding and business as a whole, as you need your whole team to love it too. It's also essential to find out what the brand expects from you – don’t promise to work once a week for them if you can’t commit to that.
We loved being involved in the brand from the very beginning. Co-creating the Style Collection meant we could ensure we understood every aspect of the new range and create something we knew other stylists would love too.
Being an ambassador is a great way to get your name out there
It means you have your work seen by a wider industry audience through magazines and shows. We find our brand associations have a really positive impact on the rest of our salons and the team.
