Owner of Pink Lemon Hair in Durham and OSMO IKON ambassador Becky Sutherland has created a new hair colour technique ‘The Slither’ and below she shares how to recreate the look.
“New for 2021, The Slither colour technique incorporates a narrow section of hair coloured in a juxtaposed hue to the rest of the hair. It works best on a full head colour with The Slither effect almost peeking out of the main style. The Slither section is taken horizontally and you can apply multiple colours to create a rainbow effect or you can just opt for a colour melt effect, using two colours. Once you’ve mastered the technique you can then experiment with different colours depending on your clients mood and lifestyle. The Slither technique adds a pop of colour, perfect for a client who is yet to commit to an all over vivid,” explains Becky.
The Before Shot
Step One
To achieve your full head base shade, mix 50 grams OSMO IKON Blonde Elevation Premium Violet Lightening Powder 9+ with 100 grams OSMO IKON Cream Developer 20 Vol and apply to the whole head. Leave to develop for 40 mins. Rinse thoroughly.

Step Two
On your clean base, section the bottom area of the head to prep for a peekaboo colour underneath. Mix OSMO Color Psycho Wild Blue with OSMO Color Psycho Color Tamer to create your desired blue shade. Apply to sectioned hair and leave to develop for 30 minutes.
Step Three
Section the hair in four large sections then take three fine alternating sections, for The Slither technique. Take your first fine section and apply OSMO Color Psycho Wild Blue to the root of the hair and melt that into OSMO Colour Psycho Wild Pink. With the next fine section, apply OSMO Color Psycho Wild Pink and melt into OSMO Color Psycho Wild Yellow. The third fine section is repeated as the first. Leave to develop for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
Step Four
For the full head application, mix 40 grams of OSMO IKON Light Aluminium and 5 grams of OSMO IKON Medium Graphite with 5 Vol OSMO IKON Cream Developer. Paint this to the root area, blending it down into 40 grams of OSMO IKON Permanent Hair Colour in ice and 2 grams of OSMO IKON Patel Metallics in Lilac again with 5 Vol OSMO IKON Cream Developer. Leave to develop for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and style as desired.
The finished look!
