How to attract more clients to your salon?

I have been a self employed hairdresser for two years. I quit my old job where I worked in a different salon until July, and now work somewhere else which is only a 30 second walk from where I used to work. So far I have been working in this salon for 3 months.

Not many of my regular clients have followed/ found me seems I couldn't get all their contact details. The salon I work in now is really nice, and all the other stylists are busy apart from me, because they have their own regulars coming to them. I sit around most of the time waiting for walk-in clients to drop in, but there isn't really a lot of walk-in trade, so I earn very little money each week. The town I live in is very small, and there are about 30-35 other salons in the town so there is a lot of competition!

Does anyone have any advice and tips on how to bring in more walk-in trade so I can earn more money and start to re-build my clientele? I am doing my NVQ Level 3 hairdressing at the moment (I finished my level 2 course two years ago) so would it be a good idea maybe advertising for models to do assessments on where they don't have to pay the full price? I am so desperate more new ideas!
