And from train times to trends, these days there's an app for everything - and smartphone-savvy hairdressers and product companies are increasingly ensuring that the hairdressing industry isn't left behind in the technological revolution.

Who: Andrew Collinge

What: Two Minute UpDo

What does it do? Created in association with Denman, this app sees Andrew Collinge demonstrate quick and easy updo's that can be secured with just one pin. The app also features an interactive gallery of the Collinge family's century of hairdressing history, Andrew's favourite hairstyles and an interactive Denman catalogue.

What: Davines

What does it do? The Davines app provides hairdressers and their clients with a quick and easily navigated guide to all of the brand's product ranges and individual products, including information about colour collections and styling advice.

Who: KMS

What: And Who Are You?

What does it do? The new app from KMS encourages clients to connect and share their favourite styles by starring in their own advert for the brand. After answering a few questions and uploading a picture of their latest style, the app produces a fun picture profile for clients to share on Facebook and Twitter or to send to friends.

What: Marc Antoni

What does it do? As well as salon and team details, this app showcases Marc Antoni fashion collections with imagery and behind-the-scenes videos. Clients can also create a library of their personal hairstyles and colour choices with the 'My Hairstyles' function.

Who: Organic Color Systems

What: Organic Hair Color Assistant

What does it do? Designed for technicians using Organic Color Systems, the app provides a colour conversion tool that matches existing colour numbers with shades available from the brand. The app also provides access to tutorials and videos and there is an option to buy products directly through your phone.

Who: Shortcuts Software

What: mylocalsalon UK

What does it do? Part of Shortcuts Software, mylocalsalon UK allows clients to search for their nearest salon or mobile hairdresser and book appointments through their iPhone or iPad. Registered salons can also promote special offers allowing clients to book in as soon as the promotion launches.

What does it do? A comprehensive guide to all aspects of The Colour Room group, this app shares information about the salons, staff and services. Clients can also use the app to store images of their hairstyle including colour and product information, get step-by-step sat-nav directions to the salon from their current location and push notifications of special offers and salon news.

What does it do? Inspired by TIGI's involvement backstage at international fashion weeks, the Catwalk app is a seasonally updated trend report to inspire both hairdressers and their clients. The app features trends, products and step-by-step guides to help recreate catwalk hairstyles, and a salon finder.

What: Q App

What does it do? As well as enabling online booking, the salon's app displays the latest promotions and offers, information about the team and salon services and images showing off styles and interior shots. Clients will also be able to connect with the salon's social media channels and post comments and suggestions. 

Who: Vidal Sassoon

What: Vidal Sassoon The Movie

What does it do? Launched to coincide with the recent Vidal Sassoon biopic, this app features clips and photos from the film, a timeline of Vidal's life and achievements and a gallery of classic cuts. You can also watch and enjoy clips and messages from Vidal himself.
