Kai Wan proves that you can push the boundaries when it comes to styling - even with a classic cut. "This look is an alternative way to styling a simple bob. "An extra hold gel was used on the sides, while the back section was textures using a matt-finish paste. "Using straightening irons the waved softly and moulded into place." Kai Wan from P.Kai Hair |
Diamonds and Curls
Gary and Leslie Hunter prove that you can still have high shine in curly hair. "Rich rustic red tones were added, but the biggest challenge was to ensure a shiny finish which is much harder to achieve on curly hair, so using styling and care products was vital. "Hair was shampooed using a specialist curl shampoo and a volumising spray was added prior to blow-drying. "Tongs were used to curl sections of hair and a finishing spray applied to ensure the style stayed in place." Gary and Leslie Hunter, Frances Hunter Hairdressing, Stirling | A Feather in the Cap
Desmond Murray gets creative with hair extensions to create the illusion of feathers for this avant garde hairstyle. "I created the piece that sits over the hair that looks like feathers using human hair extensions. "The hairpiece was laid out flat on the floor and sprayed with hard-hold hairspray and then dried using a diffuser. It was then turned over and sprayed again until it was hard and rounded. "Before attaching the piece to the hair, I used the model's real hair to create a rough, graphic shape and applied the prepared section of extensions. "The remaining hair extensions on the piece were used to create the feathered look over the hair." Desmond Murray, Desmond Murray Hairdressing, London |
Shine Like A Star
Mirror-like shine adds the wow factor to Altin Ismali's simple but effective hairstyle. "This look is centred around the copper tones of the hair. The cut is simple with a blunt and straight fringe. "The gorgeous colour gives a mirror-like shine to the end result. "Hair was washed first in a moisturising shampoo, blow-dried and straightened using irons. "Three fairly thick strands of hair were plaited and pinned to create an elfin style - perfect for day or evening." Altin Ismali, Marc Antoni, Woodley, Reading | On the Edge
Victoria Nebbett, Newcomer of the Year at HJ's British Hairdressing Awards 2008 shows long hair can be edgy too. "To create this hairstyle, I disconnected the length around the perimeter to keep it slightly longer, using a square layer technique through the top, and short graduation around the back and sides. "Once dry, I used a razor to soften the edges and fringe. A rich dark semi-permanent colour was applied to the hair. "To style, I used straightening irons to create a bend at the ends, while encouraging natural movement. To finish, a cream paste was worked through the hair for texture and softness."
