Hooker & Young are nominees for HJ's 2012 British Hairdresser of the Year. Gary and Michael have four salons throughout the North East.We caught up with the duo to find out more about his signature style and how he reinvents his trademarks for each new collection - including his colourful 2012 entry.
What is your signature look?
"Our signature look is very polished and always beautiful with incredible attention to detail. The research we do for our salon ands photo shoots comes from the internet, fashion magazines and TV, which always draws us to gorgeous, sexy and beautiful looks.
"We come from a background where the finish of work was phenomenally important and in turn became our forté, and this remains consistent in our work today."
Why is it important to have a signature look?
"Having a signature look helps to build your profile and raise awareness in the hairdressing industry as well as showing consistency. We love people to look at our pictures and instantly recognise that is our brand. However, we also believe that it is important to be able to adapt your signature look to suit your target audience and adapt to trends."
The winner of the British Hairdresser of the Year will be announced at HJ's 2012 British Hairdressing Awards on Monday November 26th at the Grosvenor House.
